How Museums Could Conquer Social Media
"Museums dream too small. They are filled with the histories, cultures and ghosts of human civilisation, and we use social media to tell people when the lift is out of order.
Drawing on my ten years of experience in social media, content and digital transformation in museums, libraries, galleries, corporations and as a consultant, I will explore how museums can utilise their people, collections and expertise to succeed on social media.
This talk will explore how people use social media and why they follow museums on social media using data from The Audience Agency, and how museums can use that data to craft an editorial strategy. I will also detail the three sets of skills and competencies required to create compelling content that is authentic, useful and popular, as well as what digital foundations a museum requires for social media to flourish.
Ultimately, this talk will discuss the reality of creating social media content in a museum, the common challenges museums face and some of the solutions to allow us to succeed.”
